Stomata of plants are usually open during the day to enable the exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen to take place mainly for photosynthesis. The opening of the stomata also resuilts in the loss of water by transpiration.A plant may close its stomata on a hot day to reduce the loss of water by transpiration.
